Here is must read. It's a free PDF book.

From the link

Quote:A Century of Innovation

A Century of Innovation is a celebration of the values and innovative thinking that makes 3M unique. Perseverance, ingenuity and creativity have made 3M's first 100 years a century of success.

For years, people around the world have looked to 3M for products and ideas that solve problems and make their lives easier and better. Our achievements are the foundation of a proud past and the bright future of many innovations to come.

We have a history of investing in the communities in which we operate by providing jobs for local residents and supporting education, the environment, and social and economic development. 3M also is recognized as a leader in environmental protection and a pioneer in pollution prevention.

Much of 3M's rich culture comes from the principles that William L. McKnight, former President and Chairman of the Board, set forth. McKnight believed "management that is destructively critical when mistakes are made kills initiative. It's essential that we have many people with initiative if we are to continue to grow." It is this growth that continues to make 3M a leader in the 21st century.

The 3M Story

Read about the first 100 years of 3M, a global, diversified technology company committed to providing practical and ingenious solutions to help customers succeed.

Go:⇒   A few more shuttle launches to go !

Hi,

STS-130 was the last night-time launch of the shuttle.
Now just a few more trips. May be we will see some spectacular developments in the future. I wonder how this will affect the job market in the coming few years.

Future missions:

Quote:STS-131
The STS-131 mission of space shuttle Discovery will deliver a multi-purpose logistics module filled with science racks to be transferred to laboratories on the International Space Station.

STS-132
The STS-132 mission of space shuttle Atlantis will deliver an Integrated Cargo Carrier and a Russian-built Mini Research Module to the International Space Station.

STS-134
The STS-134 mission of space shuttle Endeavour will deliver spare parts to the International Space Station.

STS-133
The STS-133 mission of space shuttle Discovery will deliver the Express Logistics Carrier 4 and critical spare components to the International Space Station.

Shuttle fleet; one of the best, shall I say, the best engineering marvel ever.

Go:⇒   Free solid mechanics online book

Friends,

Here is an excellent solid mechanics book online for ***FREE***

From the site:

Quote:About the book:

Topics include: the mathematical descriptions of deformation and forces in solids; constitutive laws; analytical techniques and solutions to linear elastic and elastic-plastic boundary value problems; the use and theory of finite element analysis; fracture mechanics; and the theory of deformable rods, plates and shells.

Over 400 practice problems are provided, as well as demonstration finite element codes in MAPLE and MATLAB.

The text is intended for advanced undergraduate or graduate students, as well as practicing engineers and scientists. It will be particularly useful to readers who wish to learn enough about solid mechanics to impress their teachers, colleagues, research advisors, or managers, but who would prefer not to study the subject in depth.

Quote:About the author

The author received undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Cambridge. He is currently Professor of Engineering at Brown University.

Professor Bower learned solid mechanics by eavesdropping on the conversations of his colleagues, who are all famous experts in the field.

Isn't he wonderful Smile

Thank you very much Dr. Bower.
